Composition of The Belgian Advisory Committee on Bioethics
The Committee is composed of 35 effective members, 35 alternate members and 8 members with an advisory vote.
The composition of the Committee reflects a balanced representation of different ideological and philosophical currents. A balanced number of men and women and an equal number of Dutch- and French-speaking members are also ensured. Finally, there is a balance between members from scientific and medical circles on the one hand, and members with a philosophical, legal and humanities background on the other.
The mandate of Committee members equals four years. The mandate of the current members runs from 11 December 2023 up to 10 December 2027.

The Bureau manages the work of the Committee and ensures the coordination of the various select committees. It is composed of four vice-presidents elected from among its members. Each Bureau member takes the presidence by rotation for one year.
Since 11 December 2023, Jan De Lepeleire, Virginie Pirard, Patrick Cras and Geneviève Schamps are the four vice-presidents of the Committee.

Secretariat of the Committee
The secretariat is responsible for technical and administrative tasks. It is composed of six seconded civil servants from the administrative authorities that signed the Cooperation Agreement. These civil servants are recruited following a call in the Belgian Law Gazette.
