The Belgian Advisory Committee on Bioethics was established by the Cooperation Agreement of 15 Januari 1993  which was signed by:

  • the federal state, 

  • the Flemish, French and German-speaking Communities 

  • the Common Community Commission

The Committee is the official Belgian advisory and information body on bioethics and works independently of the authorities that incorporated it.

The Committee has two missions:


Informing the public and public authorities 

on these issues through:

Delivering advisory reports


on issues arising from research and its applications in the fields of biology, medicine and health care. These issues are examined in terms of their ethical, social and legal aspects, particularly regarding the respect for human rights
