The Belgian Advisory Committee on Bioethics was established by the Cooperation Agreement of 15 Januari 1993 which was signed by:
the federal state,
the Flemish, French and German-speaking Communities
the Common Community Commission
The Committee is the official Belgian advisory and information body on bioethics and works independently of the authorities that incorporated it.

The Committee has two missions:
Informing the public and public authorities
on these issues through:
- drawing up an annual reports
- organising a biannual conference
- managing a library
- informing the press about the advisory reports
- managing a linkedIn page
- publication of a Newsletter
