The Belgian Advisory Committee on Bioethics was established by the Cooperation Agreement of 15 Januari 1993  which was signed by:

  • the federal state

  • the Flemish, French and German-speaking Communities

  • the Common Community Commission​

The Committee is the official Belgian advisory and information body on bioethics and works independently of the authorities that incorporated it.

The Committee has two missions:

 

Delivering advisory reports

  • more than 100 opinions delivered 
  • opinions on various ethical topics such as euthanasia, organ donation, scientific research on humans andwith embryos, fertility issues, genetic testing, compulsory vaccination, status of human remains...


Informing the public and public authorities 

  • writing an annual report on its activities
  • organising a biannual conference 
  • managing a library 
  • informing the press about the Committee's opinions
  • managing a linkedIn page
  • publication of a Newsletter
