Jan De Lepeleire, 

Vice-president

After studying Medicine at KU Leuven (1982), he established himself as a general practitioner in the Antwerp municipality of Lint. In 1984 he was involved in the organization of home care in the region where he later co-founded SEL Amberes and was elected president of the Primary Care Zone Zora. He defended his doctoral thesis at KU Leuven in 2000 on the diagnosis of dementia in general practice.  

He was active as board member of the Scientific Association for Flemish General Practitioners and Dijleland (four residential care centers). He developed the training for Coordinating and Consultative Physicians for residential care centers and is active in the Belgian Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics and is involved in many ways in the care of the elderly and persons with dementia. He is current coordinator of the training 'Dementia reference persons' a function that was established by the Flemish government. He was the initiator of the Metaforum Dementia at KU Leuven and is active in the Federation Palliative Care Flanders in the working group palliative and geriatrics and palliative and psychiatry. Finally, he was an active member of the Ethical Committee Care of UZ Gasthuisberg KU Leuven and Ethical Committee UPC KU Leuven. In the sixth mandate of the Belgian Advisory Committee on Bioethics (2019-2023), he was Vice-President what is also the case in the seventh mandate. He was President of the Committee from 11 dec 2023 until 10 dec 2024.
