The Belgian Advisory Committee on bioethics :

  • Belgian official advisory body on bioethics

  • 4  basic values : independence, pluralism, expertise et interdisciplinarity

  • the Cooperation Agreement of 15 January 1993 establishing an Advisory Committee on Bioethics

  • 5 public authorities as stakholders: Federal government, Flemish, French and German-speaking Communities and the  Common Community Commission

  • Operates independently of the public authorities that incorporated it 


The Committee has two missions :

 

Delivering opinions

  • more than 100 opinions delivered 
  • opinions on various ethical topics such as euthanasia, organ donation, scientific research on humans andwith embryos, fertility issues, genetic testing, compulsory vaccination, status of human remains...

Informing the public and public authorities

  • writing an annual report on its activities
  • organising a biannual conference
  • managing a library
  • informing the press about the Committee's opinions
  • managing a linkedIn page
  • publication of a Newsletter
